The Theophany School Curriculum

The Theophany Orthodox Christian School strives to provide its students with an education that will prepare them for life, through sound instruction in basic studies and grounding in the Orthodox Tradition.

At the pre-school level, this is achieved by providing students with a highly literate environment, filled with letters, books, phonics, colors, and activities that model literacy through language, reading and writing. More broadly, the curriculum of Theophany includes working with integrated thematic units that touch on meaningful and relevant issues in young students' lives. Subjects include language arts, reading, spelling, preparation for mathematics, science, music, art, media, cultural awareness and physical education. Each thematic unit is supplemented with appropriate teachings of the Orthodox Church.

Inter-Orthodox Christian Cooperation

At the outset, the dream of creating an Orthodox School also included the hope of bringing together individuals from the numerous Orthodox jurisdictions in the Boston area. Prior to Theophany School, inter-Orthodox cooperation in the Boston area had been limited. This project has helped to bring the combined time and talents of Orthodox Christians together in the common purpose of Orthodox Christian education and cooperation.

With Theophany School having recently and successfully completed its eighth year, the project of inter-Orthodox cooperation has become a reality. Every effort has been made to reach out to the various jurisdictions in the area, chiefly, the Greek Archdiocese, the Antiochian Archdiocese, and the Orthodox Church in America (and its various ethnic diocese, e.g., Albanian). The core supporters of the program, the teachers and Board of Directors, so far have been from the Antiochian Archdiocese and the Greek Archdiocese.
